The end goal is to eliminate your anxiety for good, but we recognize that a good portion of society may already be taking medication.
An estimated 19.1% of U.S. adults have had an anxiety disorder. Prevalence of an anxiety disorder was higher for females (23.4%) than for males (14.3%). Yet often men will often experience anxiety or depression but will not seek help or treatment, choosing to just suffer through it instead. Almost 15% of Americans aged 18 and over reported taking antidepressant medication regularly. Antidepressant use increased with age, in both men and women. Almost one-quarter of women aged 60 and over reported taking antidepressants regularly. The use of antidepressants has tripled in the last decade, and spending on antidepressants has soared by 130%.
Unfortunately, according to The New England Journal of Medicine, antidepressants don’t work long-term and have significant side effects. Sadly, most patients who start taking antidepressants either don’t respond to the medication or only have a partial response.
As such, we always welcome the opportunity to work with you and your medical practitioner to treat both the cause and symptoms of your anxiety. If you want to reduce your medication, please always see a doctor first to form a treatment plan. A naturopath may also be able to give you supplements to assist the process and we can talk to them too, if you would like.a
